Snowboarding Legend Living Off Grid | Mike Basich | Talks at Google
Mike Basich is a true living legend in the snowboarding world. He’s been riding epic mountains for over 25 years — plus he’s an unbelievable artist as well. Well before GoPros were around, he captured incredible selfies with a collection of DSLR cameras, remotely triggered flashes and tripod contraptions. Mike built his own mini-mountain retreat called Area-241 (chairlift included), owns a snowcat and also hand-built his very own tiny home, as well as one on wheels that he pulls behind his travel mobile. And he may be the only person to jump out of a helicopter with his snowboard from 30+ meters up and take his own picture of it!
Mike Basich says: "I went from having epilepsy as a child to making a career in the sport of snowboarding when it was looked down upon in the 80s, and have a adventuring with self portraits before the selfie was a thing in action sports. Today I strive to live in nature and understand hardship as a gift and tool to staying in balance. "
In this talk Mike talks about his journey in sports, risks taking, creative process and living off the grid.
